Dom Sibley, Sam Curran power Surrey to Finals Day at Durham's expense

Surrey reach Finals Day

Surrey secured their place in Finals Day of the Vitality Blast after beating Durham by 23 runs at the Emirates Riverside.

Dom Sibley hit 61 from 40 balls and Sam Curran smashed an unbeaten 53 from 24 deliveries to help Surrey post 202 for 5 from their 20 overs.

Durham opener Alex Lees hit a rapid 48 from 23 balls but wickets fell at regular intervals and they were eventually bowled out for 179 in the final over.

Surrey will now face Lancashire in the semi-finals at Edgbaston on Saturday

Sibley and Curran star with the bat

Surrey lost Jason Roy early on but Sibley and Will Jacks (33) put on 67 for the second wicket to lay the foundations for a big score.

Sibley was eventually caught by David Bedingham off the bowling of Liam Trevaskis but Curran continued to up the tempo.

The left-hander hit three fours and four sixes in his rapid innings, sharing an unbroken stand of 81 with Jamie Overton (26 not out) to take Surrey past the 200-mark.

Durham's chase falls short

Durham lost Michael Jones early on but Lees and Bedingham (33) put on 60 for the second wicket to keep the hosts in the hunt.

However, once Lees was caught by Jacks off the bowling of Jordan Clark, Durham's innings began to lose momentum.

Curran struck twice in the 16th over to remove Trevaskis and Brydon Carse and, although Scott Borthwick (26) and Nathan Sowter (24) offered some late resistance, Durham were eventually bowled out for 179.
