Angels Recall Reid Detmers Considering Six Man Rotation

Angels Recall Reid Detmers, Consider Six-Man Rotation

Angels Recall Reid Detmers to Bolster Struggling Rotation

The Los Angeles Angels have recalled left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers from Triple-A Salt Lake to bolster their struggling starting rotation. Detmers, who was optioned to the minors on June 26, has impressed in his brief time in the majors this season, posting a 3.60 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in four starts. The Angels have lost 11 of their last 14 games and currently have the second-worst ERA in the American League.

Angels Considering Six-Man Rotation

The Angels are reportedly considering implementing a six-man rotation in order to give their starters more rest and help them stay healthy. Detmers would be a key part of this rotation, along with Shohei Ohtani, Patrick Sandoval, and Chase Silseth. The Angels have used a six-man rotation in the past, most notably in 2014 when they won the AL West division title.

Detmers' Return Could Provide a Boost

Detmers' return could provide a much-needed boost to the Angels' rotation. The young lefty has shown flashes of brilliance this season, including a dominant performance against the Chicago White Sox in which he allowed just one hit and struck out 10 batters in six innings. Detmers will be looking to build on that performance and help the Angels turn their season around.

Other Notes

  • Detmers was the Angels' first-round pick in the 2020 MLB draft.
  • He made his MLB debut in 2021 and has a career record of 3-5 with a 4.24 ERA.
  • The Angels are currently in last place in the AL West division, with a record of 38-65.
