Kyle Larson Impresses at Indy 500 Open Test

NASCAR Champion Shows Speed at Indianapolis

Concise News Lead

Kyle Larson, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, made a strong showing at the Indy 500 Open Test on Wednesday, rocketing to second-fastest on the leaderboard with a speed of 226.384 mph. Larson, who is making his first attempt at the Indianapolis 500, gained valuable experience during the four-hour test.

Larson's performance was particularly impressive given his lack of experience in IndyCar. The 29-year-old driver has spent his entire career in NASCAR, where he has won 14 Cup races and the 2021 championship.

"I'm still learning, but I feel like I'm getting better every session," Larson said after the test. "The car is really fast, and I'm just trying to get comfortable with it and learn as much as I can."

Larson's speed suggests that he could be a contender for the Indy 500, which will be held on May 29. However, he will face stiff competition from the likes of reigning IndyCar champion Álex Palou, two-time Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato, and seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson.
