Newsom Declares State of Emergency in Rancho Palos Verdes Following Power Shutoffs

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in the city of Rancho Palos Verdes following a series of power shutoffs that have left thousands of residents without power for days.

The shutoffs, which were ordered by Southern California Edison (SCE) in an effort to prevent wildfires, have impacted over 10,000 customers in Rancho Palos Verdes.

The state of emergency declaration will allow the city to access state resources to help with the response to the power outages.

Newsom said in a statement that he is "deeply concerned" about the impact of the power outages on the residents of Rancho Palos Verdes.

"I have directed state agencies to do everything they can to support the city and its residents during this difficult time," Newsom said.

The power outages have been caused by a combination of factors, including high winds and downed trees.

SCE has said that it is working to restore power as quickly as possible, but it could take several days for all customers to have their power restored.

In the meantime, the city of Rancho Palos Verdes has set up a number of cooling centers where residents can go to escape the heat.

The city is also providing bottled water and ice to residents who are without power.

For more information on the power outages, residents can visit the SCE website or call the SCE customer service line at 1-800-655-4555.
