Ai Takes Centre Stage In Southeast Asias Biggest Tech Event

Harnessing AI for Progress in Southeast Asia

A conversation with Taipei Tech correspondents

Themed 'The World of Tomorrow with AI' event

The 'The World of Tomorrow with AI' event aimed to cement Thailand's position as the tech gateway of Southeast Asia. Jada Nagumo chatted with Taipei Tech correspondents Annie Cheng-Ting Fang and Lauly Li about the event, exploring the latest advancements and opportunities in AI.

Computing power is the decisive factor for AI innovation and has become the core productivity of the digital economy. The Southeast Asian region has emerged as a hotbed of innovation with a thriving start-up ecosystem.

AI optimizing production and driving innovation

The Lenovo Innovation Industrial Park in Tianjin has utilized AI to optimize its production layout and assemble a laptop in just six minutes. Unlike its EU counterpart, which rolled out the world's first legally binding AI regulation in 2023, Southeast Asia has taken a business-centric approach to AI regulation.

From phones that can detect deepfake scams to autonomous intelligent vehicles, the disruptive potential of AI is immense. Southeast Asia is on track for an over 35x uptick in AI spending, which is projected to rise from $1.4 billion in 2022 to $50 billion by 2026.

The event highlighted the role of AI in shaping the future of Southeast Asia, from driving economic growth to improving social well-being. AI has the power to transform industries, create new jobs, and enhance our daily lives. By leveraging this technology, Southeast Asia can position itself as a leader in the digital economy.
