Rublev beats Fritz to reach Madrid Open final
Andrey Rublev defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-3 on Friday to reach the Madrid Open final.
The Russian will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the championship match on Sunday.
Rublev, the world No. 8, was too strong for Fritz in a match that lasted just 75 minutes. The Russian broke Fritz's serve twice in the first set and once in the second set to seal the victory.
Rublev is now 3-0 in his career against Fritz. He defeated the American in the third round of the Australian Open in 2020 and in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open in 2021.
Auger-Aliassime, the world No. 9, advanced to the final with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Carlos Alcaraz. The Canadian has won three of his four matches against Rublev, including a victory in the quarterfinals of the ATP Finals in 2021.
